ISO Rating For Our Service Area Has Been Lowered From  “6/9”  to  “4”  Throughout The Area

The Payne Springs Fire Rescue recently was re-evaluated by the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) and qualified for a significant reduction in the Public Protection Classification (PPC) system.  The PPC is the countrywide classification system used by the ISO to reflect a community’s local fire protection for property insurance rating purposes.  The public fire protection of a city, town, or area is graded using ISO’s Fire Suppression Rating Schedule to develop the community’s classification.  ISO is an advisory organization that serves the property and casualty insurance industry by providing inspection services, insurance coverage form development and statistical services.  ISO has Texas offices in Dallas and Austin.

ISO classifies communities from 1 (the best) to 10 (the worst) based on how well they score on the ISO Fire Suppression Rating Schedule, which grades such features as water distribution, fire department equipment and manpower, and fire alarm facilities (how alarms are received and dispatched).  One of the objectives of the Payne Springs Fire Rescue has been to make necessary improvements within the department in all areas in order to obtain a reduction in insurance costs for the property owners served by the department.  This has been accomplished by purchasing necessary equipment and apparatus, training of members, and establishing sufficient response times and manpower on alarms.

Property owners could see a savings on insurance premiums as renewals take place after October 1, 2008.  Due to other factors used to determine insurance costs, property owners should contact their insurance agent to see how much premiums will decrease, as the amount will vary depending on the carrier, but could add up to several hundred dollars in some cases.

Payne Springs Fire Rescue is licensed by the State of Texas as a 501-3C Non-Profit Organization and any donations made to the Department are tax deductible.  If you would like to make a donation, you can mail it to the fire station or go on the Department website and make a donation through PayPal.

We proudly serve a 36 sq mile area, including the City of Payne Springs, Pinnacle Club, Enchanted Isles, The Highlands, Forest Glenn, Carolynn Estates, Michael's Cove, Bushwacker, Leisure Land, Del-Mar, Three Harbors, Baywood, Southwood Shores and many other additions. We proudly serve 99% of  Henderson County Emergency Service District #2 which includes homes of 1, 2, 2 1/2, 3 and even 4 story along with many businesses. We serve an area starting at the middle of the bridge at  Gun Barrel City, running to the South to the middle of the bridge to Caney City and just past the railroad tracks towards Eustace including CR 2502,2504  and part of 2503.

We proudly display our slogan "Our Family Serving Your Family"  because we are all a big family and we take pride in serving our community. Our Department was formed back in 1974 by many brave men and women just like us wishing to take that extra step in helping out the community. Over the years our Department has changed with the help of many volunteers. So many I can't even begin to state their names. Now we have 44 Volunteers responding out of 2 stations with 11 Appparatus (Just added a new E-One Engine) and 2 rehab trailers.

Every year we strive to improve service to our community. We seek grants, donations and other means of funding along with funds from HCESD#2 in order to continue improving. Just think, to outfit one firefighter it takes well over $7500.00 including all "gear and breathing apparatus", that don't include the training. Now add in the cost of an Engine(Pumper) that we can ride in safley, you just drove the cost well above $425,000.00.  So the next time you see one of our fund raiser taking place or you want to donate online, please think about where we came from while seeing what we are doing to take care of the future!  Please support our family, donate as you can.

Payne Springs Fire Rescue has a master plan which involves a recent purchase of a new CAFS Pumper. E-One received the bid and built the Custom Pumper for the Department. The Apparatus is fully in service.
The Department is currently in negotiations with East Cedar Creek Fresh Water Supply District for land to build a new main station. The Department is seeking 2 acres for a 5 Bay drive thru main station. The Station will include a main training/community room, sleeping quarters, EMS quarters and other offices.

Our main goal is to provide the best service we can while lowering the ISO rating so everyone receives the benefits of a progressive professional Department.

Our ISO rating was a 6/9 until the Deparment purchased twin Vacumn Tankers (E-One Water Maters) which assisted the Department in lowering the rating to a PPC of 4 across our District.  The Department is also working on many other projects. One of which is to upgrade and or replace our platform tower which blew an engine. A new one will cost around $900,000.00  to a 1.5 million or a good used one can run around $275,000.00. We are working on ways to possible sell our well used current platform and possible purchase a different unit. It would be nice to have a new one, but we would need a major blessing in order to do something like that. We all know that people have hearts and have came thru for others in the past. If that happens, we will move forward. If not we will seek the best used unit we can. Due to the sizes of homes and other facilities, we have to keep a larger aerial unt in service. Please pass this message along to someone who you feel can assist.
