Fund Raisers and Public RelationsISO Change OCT 1st, 2008
ISO Rating For Our Service Area Has Been Lowered From “6/9” to “4” Throughout The Area

The Payne Springs Fire Rescue recently was re-evaluated by the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) and qualified for a significant reduction in the Public Protection Classification (PPC) system. The PPC is the countrywide classification system used by the ISO to reflect a community’s local fire protection for property insurance rating purposes. The public fire protection of a city, town, or area is graded using ISO’s Fire Suppression Rating Schedule to develop the community’s classification. ISO is an advisory organization that serves the property and casualty insurance industry by providing inspection services, insurance coverage form development and statistical services. ISO has Texas offices in Dallas and Austin.

ISO classifies communities from 1 (the best) to 10 (the worst) based on how well they score on the ISO Fire Suppression Rating Schedule, which grades such features as water distribution, fire department equipment and manpower, and fire alarm facilities (how alarms are received and dispatched). One of the objectives of the Payne Springs Fire Rescue has been to make necessary improvements within the department in all areas in order to obtain a reduction in insurance costs for the property owners served by the department. This has been accomplished by purchasing necessary equipment and apparatus, training of members, and establishing sufficient response times and manpower on alarms.

Property owners could see a savings on insurance premiums as renewals take place after October 1, 2008. Due to other factors used to determine insurance costs, property owners should contact their insurance agent to see how much premiums will decrease, as the amount will vary depending on the carrier, but could add up to several hundred dollars in some cases.

Increase In Emergency Calls And Rising Fuel Costs Placing Strain On Department Budget

The Payne Springs Fire Rescue serves the District with 9 apparatus out of 2 stations: Engine 1 – a 2000 Pierce 1250 gpm Pumper Engine, Ladder 1 – a 1989/2005 E-One Quint 1250 gpm Pumper with 50 ft. ladderpipe, Tower 1 – a 1986 100 ft. aerial platform with 1500 gpm pump (presently being refurbished), Brush 1 – a 1999 Ford Quick Attack Brush Truck, Brush 2 – a 1994 Chevy Quick Attack Brush Truck, Tankers 1 & 2 – both are 2005 WaterMasters Tankers with 500 gpm pumps plus 2200 gpm vacuum pumps with 3500 gallon capacity tanks, Rescue 1 – a 2005 Ford with cargo box used for 1st responder, rescue, and rehab, Command 1 – a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria Incident Command Vehicle. The department is answering over 50 calls monthly, and just as you, has to purchase fuel from local station at market price. The increase in fuel costs and the increase in call volume have almost doubled in expense the past year. Payne Springs Fire Rescue is licensed by the State of Texas as a 501-3C Non-Profit Organization and any donations made to the Department are tax deductible. If you would like to make a donation, you can mail it to the fire station or go on the Department website and make a donation through PayPal.
