Social Club or Highly trained group of Volunteers

I was reading a article form Fire House magazine today and came across a cartoon stating “Social Club or Highly trained and dedicated Volunteers”. This caught my eye. Then I started thinking. What does the public think of our Fire Department? Well, I hope everyone has the facts to show them we are a group of highly trained, dedicated volunteers that want to serve our community. Just think, we are here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and we do not take off on holidays nor take vacations. We have over 38 members and of the members we have over 20 basic certified or above firefighters. Now, here comes the real part. We all have families that we take time away from to do what we do. Training, responding to over 600 calls a year and all the meetings! Wow, this is our life. So, what do you think now? So, the next time you are in Payne Springs driving and coming up behind you or driving toward you is a “volunteer” responding to a call, please give him or her room and say, wow, there goes a highly trained, dedicated volunteer!
